Is it possible to send a User Agent string in with the requests for spidering, so that in our IIS logs we can tell which requests have come from your app?

Hi Adrian,
I looked into your issue and might have a solution very soon.
You’re the first person to report this scenario…and there are thousands of people using the software…interesting.
I’ll let you know when I have something for you.
Thanks,
Brian

Hi, I have just downloaded your Google Sitemap Generator v3.1 trial and have tried to run a spider analysis on http://www.grocerdirectories.co.uk but its returning an Internal Server Error HTTP ERROR 500. This is incorrect, the site is definately returning a 302 status. Not sure if I want to buy this product if it can't do spidering correctly! Do you have a fix for this?

Hi Roger,
The next version will have a “Help” tab and provide more guidance.
Google will do nothing to keep the XML file updated. You need to keep it updated. How often is up to you.
I update mine whenever I add new pages. I regenerate the entire sitemap, upload it and notify Google.
Thanks,
Brian

Brian;
I bought the license, generated the site maps and uploaded them easily. Excellent!
My question as a rookie to xml is; What is the procedure when pages have been updated?
Do I have to run the program again creating an entirely new sitemap, upload the new sitemap to the server and re-notify Google or does the xml do part of this for me?
Maybe a step be step tutorial as to what to do after the initial step of generating and uploading the sitemap?
Thank you in advance.

The one error you get is when the spider tries to navigate to:
http://www.kitevibe.com/group-courses/lessons-corporate-days-buy.html
It’s a secure page and cannot be navigated to. The application is working correctly.

Us little guys cannot justify a great tool like this for our tiny web sites that generate little or no revenue. Is it possible that instead of stopping the demo after 5 crawls that it could after 5 crawls be limited to 50 pages. This would get your tool a lot more exposure and we little guys all hope to become bigger some day.

I know, I know. People are asking me everyday when the new version is coming out and I keep getting sidetracked with work. I am wrapping up a few projects right now and really want to get the new version out next week. There are a lot of changes to this version and it's taking time. It will be well worth it. Sorry for the delay, but it'll be coming soon!

Hi Brian,
Great Product. I'm very impressed so far. I was one of your early beta testers, but was pulled away from the the whole sitemaps things for a while. Just installed your latest version last week, and wow, its great! If you need a hand testing v3.2 or 4 with the scheduling features, i'd be glad to help. Otherwise, do you have a revised expected date for this new version?
Keep up the good work!
Richard.

Just got your software. It is really great:)
Just got one request. Is there anyway to sort the information collected so that when the sitemap is generated it is sorted in that order. ie save the files sorted by the loc field. It looks better when there are lots of url and easy for users to find the resources if the site is already organised into sub-directories. This way the publised google/yahoo/html will be neatly organised. This is especially useful for sites with many links. Otherwise, the links are listed in random order.
Currently, I noticed that we can only view it in the sorted order, but when it is generated, it is based on the order that was stored during the spidering process. Thanks! Robert.

Hi Krishna,
1. I am currently working on a Windows Service that will be packaged with the software that will enable users to schedule running the software. I anticipate having it completed within the next few days.
2. Good question. I do not believe it would remove these URLs, but that's a good point. I will look into it tonight and reply to you again. If it does not remove these URLs, it would be very easy to implement. If you site isn't very large (< 5,000 URLs), you could very quickly clear the cached sitemap and regenerate it from scratch with my software...that's a current workaround until I verify the way it works.
Let me know if you have anymore questions.
Thanks,
Brian

I have read the overview of this tool and have a few questions before I recommend acquiring this tool.
1. Is there a way to automatically kick this tool off on a specified time ?
2. How does it handle retired urls ? Does it match with whats already out in an existing sitemap ? I mean, if we remove a url from our site will it take it out from sitemap.xml

I just thought of a feature request. For the html sitemaps, it would be nice if the title of the page could be used for the link text, instead of the url.
For seo purposes the text of a link plays a role in ranking, not to mention helping your visitors to know what the page is about before clicking on it. I know this page isn't really meant to be seen by visitors and it would add some overhead to the program since it would have to read the title tag, but maybe it could be set as a preference?

Hmmm...interestesting point.
You must be a .NET developer. He's an easy, short term solution: In your project "Property Pages", go to the "Start Options". Change the server preference to "Use custom server" and change the base URL to "http://localhost". Then, in IIS, change your "Default Web Site" home directory to the website's home directory. The site will then run as if it were on a server.
Believe it or not, I develop like this all the time. It helps when dealing with relative and absolute paths. And it simulates a production environment perfectly. Only pain is that I have to change the IIS root directory every once in awhile.
I'll look into implementing allowing ports. Shouldn;t be too bad.

support for port numbers would be good. i would need to run a tool like this in a local development environment (on port localhost:8080) before deploying to production servers.

Darin,
You MUST separate sitemap files per subdomain. Google does NOT accept a sitemap file for more than one domain (that includes www/non-www domains, i.e. you cannot list http://mysite.com in a sitemap file for http://www.mysite.com)
The good news is that my software supports subdomains...meaning: 1) You can create a profile for each subdomain, and 2) The software is smart and knows when a subdomain is found it should not include it in the sitemap or try to continue spidering through it.
Thanks,
Brian
PS - Make sure you have downloaded the latest version...each version has more and more features added is continually optimized to run faster!

I have created many sitemaps already. This product is wonderful. One of the sites I'm building a sitemap for has various parts of the overall site separated by subdomain. It is preferred to have the sitemap for all the subdomains in the same sitemap file. Is there a way to have all the subdomains included in the sitemap from the primary site (assuming they are properly linked) or merge sitemaps created for each subdomain?

Daniel,
Yes, that’s a great idea…and it’s already in the works.
It’ll be a Windows Service that can be easily configured to schedule spidering and refreshing of your sitemap.
It could be installed on your local machine or web server.
I have it mostly coded and expect to release it with version 3.2 (next week). It'll be included with the $49.99 and all current customers get free upgrades for life. So there's no need to wait to buy it. :)
Thanks,
Brian

After trying the free version I am on the verge of buying this great tool. The one feature that would put me over the top is some sort of auto-generation and upload on a schedule. For example: automatically every night create my sitemap, upload it, and notify Google so I don't have to do it manually. THAT would be slick!
What do you think the possibility of this is?

And to answer your question for everyone else, you should normally receive the license file within 1-2 hrs of paying with PayPal. I sent your license Saturday morning and then again Sunday with my Hotmail account (after I received an email asking where it was). Please check your spam folders and call me if you still haven;t received anything.

Hi Darin,
The HTML sitemap generation of 100 links per page is correct.
Google recommends no more than 100 links per page so I generated as many pages as needed with an index page.
This page is not really for the public to see, but rather a page you would submit to search engines.
It makes it very easy (and guarantees) that the search engines find ALL of your webpages.
The transfer prompt is new to me...I 'll check that out ASAP and get back to you later.
Thanks,
Brian

I noticed that when I create an HTML sitemap, it creates several files with roughly 100 links per file. Is there a reason for this? Additionally, if I upload the html sitemap files to my webserver via your app, I get a successfully transferred prompt for each file it's transferring. This is problematic as for large sites, I could be doing this hundreds of times.
